41 Challenges on Fabric Printing - Print on fabric Print on fabric can be useful to make decotations for wall hangings, or cards, ATC, labels ... Not everything will be washed often.
Supplies:
White fabric, like muslin
Freezer Paper
Soda Ash If You Want to pretreat
the fabric printed fabric can be very useful to do things which will not wash ... such as labels, or for tickets, or to decorate or make wall-hanging.
And it is to make a picture that I experienced this morning, the technique ... and I must say that I am satisfied so here's the tutorial
Material: Fabric
white, better texture, dense but not heavy. I used a canvas sheet.
Freezer Paper (FP) ... I have already explained that you can replace with the butcher paper.
Optional:
sodium carbonate (NOT baking soda, just soda. It is located at the supermarket as "Solvay soda 'or do we get from the pharmacist compliant)
First of all two words about printers. I've read a lot about in Several sites, and this is what Tournedos out:
- you've to use inkjet printers, laser
NOT - between InkJets Seems to be the best brand Epson, two to the composition of the ink.
First an explanation on ink and printers, are information from the network:
This technique only works with inkjet printers and not with the laser. The FP laser melt and you risk throwing everything. Furthermore, it seems that the ink of the laser is not good for this job.
include inkjet printers seem to work best for this are the Epson, for their mechanics, and for the ink composition. It seems that some HP
Vadan well but I did not understand why such depends on the ink cartridge.
I have an Epson so I am laid on the problem.
About persistency Seems That color print on presoaked fabric colors made more wash-resistant, But I prefer to use printed fabrics for non washable items.
Someone suggest to use a very light layer of spray paint in acrilyc fabric, it shouln't stiffen the fabric.
Then explain the persistence of color:
Here the question is tricky ... here I turned and turned over the network and the result is that printing on fabric is not pre-treated well but does not stand up to washing.
printing on fabric made pretreated adheres better and holds more than a gentle washing by hand.
the technique I use for things can not be cleaned and resolve the issue: p
Someone also recommended to give the press a very light spray of acrylic spray paint (such as fixatives, paints). The dash light would not help the color to fade if subjected to friction (for example, if the fabric was then used for a scholarship) but it should not stiffen the fabric.
And now two words about photos or pictures
Photos Have to be sharp and well contrasted. You can the contrast enhancement with a photo editing program.
Finally, two words about the images:
Images must be sharp and well contrasted, if you can increase a bit 'the contrast with a graphics program.
Of course we should not expect a vibrant, glossy, since the fabric is by its nature is opaque and you can not do anything. Now we begin
1: treat the fabric Leave the fabric to soak in soda ash solution (2 tablespoon of soda in 1 liter warm water) for 30 minutes. Squeeze and let dry. Step 1: pre-treat the fabric
This phase of course only if you want to do it, otherwise skip over.
To pre-treat the fabric it is left to soak at least half an hour in a solution of sodium carbonate. Let's say two tablespoons to 1 liter of warm water. Wear gloves because the solution is very basic and could irritate the skin.
After that squeeze and hang to dry.
2: prepare the fabric sheet
Cut a piece of fabric and a piece of freezer paper Slightly larger than an A4 sheet.
Step 2: Prepare the paper
Cut a piece of freezer paper slightly larger than an A4 sheet (the one used in the printer)
Cut a piece of fabric slightly larger than an A4 sheet.
Now iron the fabric and then adhere it to the freezer paper (shiny side of the paper on the fabric). Use hot iron but not steam.
Now cut the fabric-paper at the size of an A4 sheet.
Now stretch the fabric so that it is flat, so I stretched over the freezer paper (plastic side against the fabric).
The iron must be hot but not too ... I imposed a little 'less than for cotton. And without steam
Once attached the freezer paper using a A4 page as a template and cut out the shape of the exact size.
3: borders It's important to stiffen borders. I use a paper tape to Reinforce the bottom edge (that is first taken from the printer) and the upper one, just in corners. Step 3: The edges
It 'important to pay attention to the edges of the paper, is what is first taken from the printer, is the opposite. Van
strengthened to ensure that the printer takes the paper and does not bend well at the corners.
I use a piece of masking tape. I put it behind the sheet, making it stick out from the FP of half cm (1) then turn around on the fabric in half a cm more, mash well and trim the edges (2). I do the same on the top of the page, but only at the corners, is not everything.
4: print
Put the printer in only the fabric sheet.
Set The printer source as "matte paper" then print looking that the printer take the sheet well.
I've had no problems and the results was really nice!
My printer did not do a half turn, if it is taken and printed without stories, and the result surprised me ... here it is compared with the original photo (I have to say that the fabric is more clear picture of what is the real ... for sure next time I'll have more saturated colors ... but you know you should always try and try:
5: set the color printing After you've to let the ink dry for Some hours, then you've printed fabric to gently wash the discharge to the soda- ash and the excess of ink. tells Someone That Is Not Necessary to iron But I prefer to Set the print with iron before wash it.
